Fear and Phobias

It's good to know that you can easily overcome fears and phobias with hypnosis because such anxieties are extremely common. More than 10% of people will experience a simple phobia at some time in their lives. From elevators, spiders and birds, to heights, dentists and open spaces, there is nothing we can't develop anxiety or a phobia about.

Hypnotherapy provides an extremely effective cure for fears and phobias as it generates the opposite of anxiety; deep relaxation, and allows you to create different paths down which to go. In guided hypnosis, you're able to detach the trigger from the emotional response and update the brain with a more realistic response.

The theoretical rationale for the use of hypnosis in the treatment of phobias and intense fears has been reviewed in this chapter. Clearly, hypnosis is a successful therapeutic adjunct that can be used with behavioural or psychodynamic treatment strategies in the treatment of intense fears and phobias in hypnotically responsive individuals (Barabasz, 1977; Humphreys, 1986; Kluft, 1986; McGuinness, 1984.) Hypnosis provides a focused attentional state in which an individual can imagine environmental stimuli more intensely with greater involvement.
